Bute Community Council has received the following letter from Jenni Minto, MSP for Argyll & Bute on the topic of the weather impact from last weekend.

11th October 2023

Dear Community Council,
I am writing to thank you for the support you are providing to your community following the recent extreme rainfall. It has been heartbreaking to see the devastation caused by the flooding. It has also been heartwarming to hear how communities have rallied together to help.

Unfortunately, climate change means that “extraordinary weather conditions” are no longer “extraordinary” and are almost certain to be regular occurrences in the future. Previous care and maintenance of the roads will therefore no longer be sufficient and how we tackle these circumstances must be better planned.

I have therefore called for a joint meeting with Argyll & Bute Council, Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland to ensure there is improved co-ordination and communication to ensure the people of Argyll & Bute and visitors have clear and consistent information regarding our transport network.

I am also pressing for urgent action and a timeline for the reopening of the affected roads.
If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,
Jenni Minto
MSP for Argyll and Bute
